Columbus, we need to talk about Cobra. The Brewery District cocktail bar just won Best U.S. Restaurant Bar at the 2026 Spirited Awards, and if you’ve never heard of that award, here’s the short version: it’s one of the biggest honors you can win in the spirits industry, on par with the Oscars for anyone who takes a cocktail seriously.
Yes, they even have a red carpet.
But here’s why Cobra is making waves nationally…
Cobra in Columbus is #1 in the Nation
What Cobra Actually Won
The Spirited Awards are handed out by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, the organization that basically sets the bar (pun intended) for the entire industry every year. At the July 23 ceremony, Cobra beat out restaurant bars from across the entire country to take home the national title for Best U.S. Restaurant Bar.
In its statement, the Cobra team kept it humble: “We started Cobra to represent a collection of ideas we hold dear: the importance of inclusive spaces with diverse voices. The need for an educational focus to show that hospitality is a skill worth devoting a career toward.” They closed it out with a line that’s very on-brand for this city: “You’ve got friends in Ohio.”

This Bar Has Been Building Toward This Moment
If you’ve been following along, none of this should shock you. We told you back when Cobra first landed on the national radar that this was a bar worth paying attention to, and it’s kept climbing ever since. Cobra opened in October 2023 and within months, it was landing on Punch Drink’s Best New Bars in the Nation list and getting tapped as a national finalist for Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar.
But this year, Cobra stepped it up and won something even bigger.
What to Order When You’re There
Cobra’s whole thing is Asian-inspired riffs on classic cocktails, served in a black-ceilinged, low-key space that feels more like your favorite bartender’s living room than an award-winning destination. Start with the “Above Ground Pool,” a Margarita reimagined with mango, serrano-cilantro cordials, and a Sichuan salt rim. It’s the bar’s best-seller, and now you know why.
The Cobra Old Fashioned is also a great option for my fellow whisky lovers, with Wild Turkey 101, Toki Japanese Whisky, Barley, and Cocoa.
Cobra is open Wednesday through Monday at 684 S. High St., serving its regular menu until midnight and a late-night menu until 1:45 a.m. — because the best bars in this city know their people stay out late.

Columbus’s Bar Scene Is Thriving
Cobra isn’t the only one racking up national love this summer. Land-Grant Brewing Co. in Franklinton just landed on USA TODAY’s list of the Best Bars in America for 2026, one of only 38 spots nationwide to make the cut. Two Columbus bars, two national wins, one very good summer for anyone who drinks in this city.
