If you’re serious about sushi, you might already know about Oishii Japanese Bistro, the Powell spot that blew our minds (and went mega viral) back in December. We went in search of great seafood in landlocked Columbus — a mission that usually ends in disappointment — and instead, we found sushi so fresh, so flavorful, that it genuinely rivaled anything we’ve had outside of Japan.
Well, good news: Oishii just quietly opened a brand-new location in Columbus just, north of OSU’s campus and south of Clintonville, and it’s even bigger and better than before.
More seating? Check. An expanded menu? Absolutely. A patio for warm-weather sushi feasting? You bet. All you can eat sushi? Oh yeah. And if you haven’t been yet, it’s about time you fix that.
What Makes Oishii So Special?
First, let’s talk about the sushi itself. We’re not exaggerating when we say this might be the best sushi in Columbus. The fish is ridiculously fresh, the flavors are balanced to perfection, and every bite is a straight-up melt-in-your-mouth experience.
Take the Oishii Roll, for example… Spicy salmon, avocado, and jalapeño topped with peppered salmon and a sweet miso sauce. It’s got heat, it’s got sweetness, it’s got richness, and somehow, it all just works. Then there’s the Dragon Eggs, an absurdly delicious creation featuring deep-fried avocado stuffed with spicy kani, spicy tuna, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. We’d never heard of this dish before, but now we’re borderline addicted.
The New Location Brings Even More to Love
As much as we love the original Powell location, seating was limited, and getting in at peak hours could be a challenge. This new spot changes the game, offering way more room to spread out (and no more waiting awkwardly near the door, dreaming of sushi). The menu is bigger, meaning more chances to discover your next favorite roll, and come summer, you’ll be able to enjoy it all on the patio, because nothing says perfection like sushi and sunshine.
