Powell, Ohio isn’t just known for its scenic streets and charming downtown, it’s officially the wealthiest suburb of Columbus, with sky-high home values and one of the highest mean household incomes in the state (it even ranked 33rd wealthiest city in the nation). And yet, nestled in this more affluent pocket of Central Ohio, you’ll find some seriously delicious and, more importantly, affordable eats. I’m talking legit bang-for-your-buck, perfect for when you want feast-level portions without the hit on your bank account.
Here’s your guide to the top 5 cheap places to eat in the wealthiest Columbus suburb, serving up flavor, portions, and wallet-friendly prices — all in no particular order:
1. Doaba Indian Restaurant
230 W Olentangy St, Powell, OH 43065
This place has been THE spot for my boyfriend’s fam for years, and not just because the flavors are out-of-this-world. Sure, entrées like Chicken Tikka Masala ($16), Lamb Curry ($18), or Paneer Makhani ($15) look like “eh, that’s not that affordable” — trust me, you’re set for at least two meals from one plate. If you want taste + value, Doaba is your MVP. Brace yourself, though, because leftovers are a given.

2. Beijing Restaurant
9862 Brewster Ln, Powell, OH 43065
I have a sneaking suspicion that Chinese joints with faded, retro menus above the counter are some of the BEST budget spots around. Beijing delivers on greasy, filling comfort food vibes. Are we talking culinary masterpieces? Maybe not, but at about $13 for an entrée, the portions will feed you for at least 2–3 days. Eggrolls, General Tso’s… it’s old-school magic that hits the spot.

3. Brooklyn Pizza
240 N Liberty St, Powell, OH 43065
Hands down one of the most authentic New York–style slices in Ohio, and damn is it affordable. Grab a slice for a few bucks, or a 16″ pie for under $17 that feeds a crowd! Don’t sleep on the meatball parm sandwich ($11.95) or Stromboli ($9.45). Plus, the service is warm and real… like “my dad owned 15 NY pizzerias” level authentic (it’s true, same recipes and everything!).

4. New China Express
4036 Powell Rd, Powell, OH 43065
Reliable, consistent, and cheap, New China Express is the spot when you want a classic Chinese takeout fix. Their Honey Orange Chicken (small) is a mere $10 and comes with rice (fried or steamed) for no extra charge. From 11 AM to 3 PM on weekdays, you can snag an entrée — like General Tso’s or Lo Mein (which also comes with an eggroll) — with a drink for just $9. It’s hard to beat.

5. Kraft House No. 5
5 Liberty St, Powell, OH 43065
Okay, so it’s not ultra-cheap, but hear me out. This hidden gem feels elevated yet chill, with portions and flavors that feel like highway robbery (in the best way). Their sandwiches come with a heaping pile of fries, the fried pickle spears are delightfully airy, and if you’ve got kids, a phenomenal cheeseburger + fries runs you just $8. The vibe is elevated but not snobby, perfect for those days where you want something high quality but don’t feel like dressing up.

Honorable Mentions (Still Great Value)
- Martiny’s BBQ (Lewis Center): For around $20, you get succulent burnt ends and two generous sides. Skip the fancy joints, this is where mouthwatering meets affordably massive portions.
- Koble Grill (Powell): Mediterranean flair without breaking the bank. Super generous platters, like romano-stuffed meatballs in tomato basil sauce with pita slathered in goodness.
Bonus: Fresh Fast-Food Value
There’s also a brand-new Del Taco drive-thru that just opened in Powell earlier this year. It’s among the first to the area, and has been a staple on the west coast for decades. Open from 9 AM to 2 AM (and 3 AM Thursday thru Saturday), it serves tacos, burritos, burgers, queso fries, and more, great for late-night cravings that won’t wreck your budget.
