Choreographer Merce Cunningham invented and regularly utilized a performance format known as an Event or MinEvent in which excerpts from the company’s vast repertoire of dances are combined in fresh, unexpected ways. Each MinEvent is unique and designed to suit the particular space and context in which it is presented.
As part of the Wex’s centennial celebration of Robert Rauschenberg and his collaborators, 12 students from Ohio State’s Department of Dance—under the direction of Daniel Roberts, associate professor in the Department of Dance and former Merce Cunningham Dance Company member—will explore multiple Cunningham pieces across several decades. (program approx. 30 mins.)
