Classes in The Communal Garden series teach gardeners skills that can be used in community gardens or to support their community through gardening. They are low-cost in an effort to advance gardening skills in our communities. The series is a part of the Conservatory’s Growing to Green program, which supports and develops community gardens across Central Ohio. The Communal Garden classes are made possible by support from a grateful gardener.
In years past, orchards were full of large trees that would be inconvenient or impossible to grow at home or in community gardens when space is a limiting factor. Over the last few decades however, the development and selection of smaller fruit tree rootstock varieties has changed that. In this class, we will discuss how to select trees and cultivars that will work well in your garden space- large or small! We will go over the basic principles of establishment and care of apple, pear, peach and cherry trees.
