Not often is a bakery a destination stop for travelers, but for those who have ventured to Amish Country and found their way to Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery, that experience alone is a reason to venture to Holmes County.Sure, a person could walk into Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery and see all of the amazing selections of baked goods, like fry pies, apple fritters and muffins, to name just a few. Or they could view fresh, colorful produce piled high, but why let your eyes have all the fun? Letting your nose savor all of those luscious aromas, like homemade bread and countless freshly baked goods is worth the trip. Established in 1986. Hershberger’s Farm and Bakery was first opened in 1986 by Alvin and Emma Hershberger with Emma baking in their home kitchen where she created many of the baked good recipes still used today. Eventually, the baking was moved to their summer house and then to a 25′ x 35′ building.
In 1998, son Daniel purchased the bakery and started the petting area in a pasture
2002 a new bakery is built
2005 barn for the horses built
2007 the first petting area building added
2008 the food trailer added serving breakfast & lunch
2010, original petting area building was converted to the Farm Store & the modern petting area building is built
2014 the bakery & store expanded
2016 horse barn expanded, and walk-thru petting area added
2018 pony rides, wagon rides, & buggy rides offered
2020 greenhouse & closed porch were added.
2021 a new 40′ x 60′ addition to the petting area building. A 25′ x 35′ walk-thru aviary was created housing over 400 parakeets.
2022 Food trailer replaced with a 34′ mobile kitchen
