When it comes to fall, Columbus knows how to set the perfect date scene. We got colorful leaves, crisp air, and just enough pumpkin spice to keep things interesting.

But who says romance has to come with a hefty price tag? Whether you’re a broke student, a thrifty romantic, or just looking for a fun outing on the cheap, we’ve rounded up five date ideas that are big on charm and easy on the wallet.

Who woulda thunk you could impress your date without breaking a five-dollar bill!?

1. Get artsy (for free!) at the Columbus Museum of Art

480 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43215

For a dose of culture and romance, spend your Sunday afternoon at the Columbus Museum of Art, where admission is totally free. Wander through rooms filled with the abstract, the historic, and the downright mesmerizing, and enjoy one of the city’s most beautiful spaces together. A stroll through this creative haven might just be one of the most unexpectedly romantic dates Columbus has to offer.

2. Picnic or Stroll Around Mirror Lake

1756 Neil Ave, Columbus, OH 43210

Mirror Lake is one of Ohio State’s most iconic spots, especially with the fall leaves framing the water’s edge. With picturesque flower beds and striking architecture like Thompson Library to the north and Pomerene Hall to the south, it’s a prime spot for a picnic, a scenic walk, or simply cozying up with a shared coffee in hand. A date here is as charming as it is affordable. Just don’t forget a blanket if you’re picnicking!

3. Explore the Worthington Farmers Market

Outdoor: 661b High St, Worthington, OH 43085. Indoor (Seasonal): 7227 N High St, Worthington, OH 43085

One of the largest farmers markets in the area (and recently voted the #1 farmers market in the US by USA Today), the Worthington Farmers Market brings fresh produce, artisan goods, and live music to the quaint streets of Old Worthington every Saturday. With crisp fall air, friendly vendors, and all the cute date vibes, it’s the perfect place to explore for free… unless you want to grab a small snack or souvenir.

4. Gallery Hopping in the Short North

875 N. High St, Columbus, OH 43215

Known for its nightlife, the Short North is also Columbus’s arts district, brimming with free galleries that welcome you to explore. Spend an afternoon browsing local art, popping in and out of galleries that showcase everything from contemporary pieces to traditional masterpieces. And since no gallery stroll is complete without coffee, grab a warm cup from a neighborhood spot like Mission Coffee Co., Roaming Goat, or One Line Coffee to add some cozy to your culture.

5. Take an Outdoor Adventure at Highbanks Metro Park

9466 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, OH 43035

Nothing says fall like a walk through nature, and Highbanks Metro Park delivers with forested trails, the Olentangy River, and plenty of vibrant autumn colors. Stroll hand-in-hand along scenic paths and enjoy that crisp fall air. Bonus points if you pack a small snack or thermos of cider (we’ll pause here for the “oooos” and “ahhhhs” to die down)! The park is so gorgeous you’ll hardly notice you’re getting in a little exercise along the way.
