If you grew up on the west side of Columbus, chances are you’ve got a Sparano’s Pizza memory or two. For so many, it was the Friday night staple with the family.
Either way, it’s officially the end of an era… Sparano’s Pizza has closed its doors after 30 years in business.
The news came as a surprise to longtime customers, with the closure announced suddenly and effective immediately. But in a rare twist that doesn’t leave us crying into our crusts, there’s already a new plan already in motion, and it’s a pretty solid one.
The Goodbye (And the Good News)
In a heartfelt message posted online, the owners of Sparano’s shared their gratitude:
“We are very fortunate to have been surrounded by you all, and could not have been successful without you. We are pleased to announce that Sparano’s Pizza is ‘passing the pepperoni’ to Cappy’s Pizza, effective immediately.”
Yes, you read that right. Cappy’s Pizza, another longtime local favorite in London that’s been slinging pies for over 50 years, is taking over the location at 3947 West Broad Street. They’ll be keeping the same phone number and continuing service right where Sparano’s left off.
In other words: the lights are staying on, the ovens are staying hot, and your pizza cravings are still in good hands.

A New Chapter for a West Side Classic
While we’ll miss Sparano’s and their buttery crust, generous toppings, and no-frills charm, it’s hard to be too sad knowing that Cappy’s is stepping in. The team at Cappy’s is excited to expand into the west side, and it sounds like they’re planning to keep the community-first spirit alive.
So whether you’re a Sparano’s loyalist or a longtime Cappy’s fan, go grab a slice soon. Let’s support the local legends who keep our pizza traditions alive, and hopefully make some new memories along the way.
