Soul Sunday, hosted by Debra James Tucker continues with Harpoetic, an Ohio Based Mixed Genre Group of Black Musicians creating poetic music for all ears! Their diverse musical backgrounds in the genre’s gospel, jazz, blues, hip hop, RnB and classical allows them to express a variety of musical conversations collectively and individually. Harpoetic’s goal is to bring heart filled, agenda-less music to the world in a way that pleases the ear of Christ Jesus.

The band released their debut single in September of 2024 entitled “47.84” & followed up with their debut EPA “What If God and Jazz had a baby?” released on Easter of 2025.

The band was founded in October 2022 by keyboardist & vocalist Raymon James. In the fall of 2023 Joined, Dayton natives and close friends Shawn “Tookie” Bryant & Kellen Williams (guitarist, lead member of the Kellen Williams Trio) joined the band following up in the summer of 2024, Jordan Lewis was added as the official drummer. Together they are Harpoetic! Glory to Yahweh! Psalms 150

The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
