Attention military history buffs and those interested in miniature games: Join the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, Great Lakes Chapter for an afternoon of tabletop miniatures gaming at the Ohio History Center! Learn about battles important to the history of Ohio and put yourself in command. Ask yourself if you would have done anything differently if you were in the general’s shoes and see how your battle plans work out!

If you can’t make it this time, no worries. We will have another scenario to play the first Sunday of next month!*

*We will not have a game in January or April because the museum will be closed on the first Sundays of those months.

Sun. Dec.7, starting at Noon:

“Iron Bottom Night – Naval Battle of Guadalcanal”

Setting: World War II
Rules: Naval War
Scale: 1:2400

Date: November 14–15, 1942
Location: Off Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands

Historical Context:
The Imperial Japanese Navy launches a desperate attempt to bombard Henderson Field and land reinforcements to retake Guadalcanal. The U.S. Navy intercepts the Japanese force and what unfolds is one of the most chaotic and brutal surface engagements of World War II, fought at point-blank range in the dark waters off Savo Island.

Naval War is a free World War II naval miniatures wargame designed for fast-paced, historically inspired battles at sea. It supports multiple scales (1:1800 to 1:6000) and combines surface combat, air strikes and submarine actions using a streamlined command system that emphasizes tactical choices like evasive maneuvers and smoke screens.
