Sadie (Crawford) is a sex worker who becomes temporarily stranded on Pago Pago, American Samoa, when cholera breaks out on her ship. Stranded alongside her are pious missionary Alfred Davidson (Walter Huston) and his wife. Sadie makes herself at home, partying with the Marines who are stationed on the island. When her behavior is more than the Davidsons can stand, Alfred’s rebuffed efforts to save her soul turn ugly the night before she is scheduled to leave the island. (94 mins., 4K DCP)
