Sadie (Crawford) is a sex worker who becomes temporarily stranded on Pago Pago, American Samoa, when cholera breaks out on her ship. Stranded alongside her are pious missionary Alfred Davidson (Walter Huston) and his wife. Sadie makes herself at home, partying with the Marines who are stationed on the island.
