Icons David Bowie and Rosanna Arquette headline this overlooked, newly restored indie gem from the early 1990s.
In addition to the indelible mark he left on music history, David Bowie also had a prolific acting career, appearing in such films as The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983), Labyrinth (1986), Basquiat (1996), and many more. In the offbeat cult film The Linguini Incident, Bowie stars as Monte, a British bartender hoping to quickly marry in order to secure a green card. With dreams of becoming a famous escape artist, his coworker Lucy (Rosanna Arquette) conspires with her lingerie-designing friend Vivian (Eszter Balint) to rob the restaurant where Lucy works. They invite Monte to join, which he does on one condition: that Lucy marries him. Leading an inspired cast that includes Marlee Matlin, André Gregory, Viveca Lindfors, and Buck Henry, the trio execute their scheme—although, perhaps unsurprisingly, nothing goes quite according to plan.
