There are certain things in life you just don’t think about until they become a problem. Your ears are definitely one of ‘em.

Sure, we all think we’re doing fine with the occasional Q-tip (even though we’re definitely not supposed to use them), but when I heard about OtoSet Ear Cleaning at MedStation in Powell, a high-tech, hands-free ear cleaning that uses what is essentially a pair of headphones, I had to try it for myself.

I do love trying weird and unique things more than anything, after all.

The Check-In & The Setup

I pulled up to MedStation, walked in, gave them my name, and was told I’d be called back shortly. No long wait, no stacks of outdated magazines or tabloids still talking about Prince Harry for some reason… just about five minutes before I was taken back to the room.

The room? Pristine. The nurse facilitating everything? Incredibly kind, patient, and informative. She broke down how this device works and why it’s a game-changer for anyone dealing with earwax buildup, muffled hearing, or just the occasional hmm, am I actually hearing things at full capacity? moment.

Before anything started, she took a thorough look inside my ears, just like at a regular doctor’s visit, to see what we were working with. Spoiler alert: I keep my ears squeaky clean, but I was still excited to see the process in action.

The Ear Cleaning Experience

Once she filled up the device with body-temperature water (to prevent any uncomfortable shock to the system), she helped place the headset over my ears, carefully adjusting the tiny tubes that deliver the water. No discomfort, no pain – just a futuristic headset that made me feel like I was about to pilot a spaceship.

And then? Showtime.

The device turned on and began gently spraying water into my ear canal. It was definitely a weird feeling at first. Like a super targeted white noise machine mixed with a mini pressure washer, but also oddly satisfying. After about 30 seconds to a minute, the device switched to vacuum mode, sucking out all the excess water and debris into a tiny collection tank.

I’ll admit, I was hoping for some shocking earwax reveal, but my ears were already pretty clean (humble brag) so, unfortunately, no horror movie moment of debris-filled water. But for those who do have buildup, you’ll get to see exactly what was lurking in there.

The Aftermath

To wrap things up, the nurse added drying drops to remove any water remaining in my ears, and gave me a quick hearing test. And just as quickly as I arrived, I was done! The whole process was maybe 10-15 minutes, tops.

So if you’ve ever felt like your ears need a reset, this quick, painless, and futuristic ear-cleaning experience is definitely worth checking out. Whether you’re dealing with constant earwax buildup, mild hearing issues, or just morbid curiosity (no judgment), OtoSet at MedStation in Powell is an easy, effective, and shockingly satisfying way to get your ears feeling fresh.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Next time, though, I’ll try to show up with a little more earwax for the full dramatic effect.
