There’s something about spring that makes you want to clean everything in sight — closets, garages, that one junk drawer that somehow only holds batteries that definitely don’t work anymore. But this year, I added something a little unexpected to the list: my ears.

Yep. Turns out “spring cleaning” can include your ear canals. And no, this isn’t some old-school candle wax ritual or a trip to the doctor where they blast water into your ear with a medieval torture syringe. I’m talking about the OtoSet Ear Cleaning at MedStation in Powell, a futuristic, high-tech headset that made me feel like I was getting ready to pilot a spacecraft instead of, you know, blasting out some earwax.

So… What Is It?

It looks like a pair of sleek over-ear headphones, but inside is a body-temp water irrigation system and a tiny vacuum that gently flushes and removes debris from your ears. The whole process is less than 10 minutes, completely painless, and weirdly satisfying. Like a car wash for your ears, but in the best way possible.

As someone who wears earplugs often (shoutout to snoring partners, loud concerts, and my desire to not go deaf), I’ve learned that earwax can build up over time and get impacted. And let me tell you, when it gets to that point, you’re looking at a very uncomfortable and very awkward ENT appointment. Ask me how I know.

Getting ahead of that with a quick, no-fuss, spa-like ear cleaning? Genius

The Experience

I walked into MedStation, checked in, and was in a room within five minutes. The nurse who walked me through the process was kind, knowledgeable, and answered all my “okay, but is this going to be weird?” questions.

She took a quick look inside my ears with an otoscope, then set me up with the OtoSet headset. It sprayed warm, distilled water into my ear canal (no freezing cold shocks here) and then vacuumed it all back out into a small tank. I didn’t have much buildup — humble brag — but the whole thing still felt like a refresh for my ears.

Drying drops, a quick hearing check, and boom — I was out the door. The whole thing took maybe 10-15 minutes tops.

Why You Should Consider It

If you deal with tinnitus, hearing issues, or just that muffled “I think something’s in there but I don’t want to admit it” feeling, this is a super easy way to get ahead of the problem before it becomes a problem. Especially if you’re someone like me who regularly uses earplugs, earbuds, or headphones, you’re probably unknowingly creating the perfect storm for earwax buildup.

This isn’t just a weird wellness trend, either. It’s medical-grade care that feels like a satisfying spa treatment for your ears. And if you’re overdue for your own version of a spring reset, OtoSet is the kind of low-effort, high-reward health move that future-you will thank you for.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Next time, I might even try to bring more wax to the party for that full “what just came out of me” reveal.
