Spring is here, and if you’re anything like me, you’re ready to escape the winter blues and bask in the glory of blooming flowers, chirping birds, and actual sunlight. Lucky for us, Central Ohio has the perfect place to fully embrace the season: Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville.
This might just be the most beautiful spot in the entire state — and yes, I’m including Hocking Hills, Franklin Park Conservatory, and, dare I say it, even the Garden of Eden (which, I’m not sure you knew, was actually in Ohio).
A 123-Acre Slice of Springtime Heaven
One of the best things about Inniswood Metro Gardens is how massive it is. You might think it’s just a quaint little park with some flowers and a couple of walking trails, because it is just a garden after all, right?
Wrong.
This place stretches across 123 acres, winding through a mix of perfectly manicured gardens and untouched natural beauty. One minute you’re strolling past a vibrant rose garden, and the next, you’re surrounded by a lush forest, with birds singing their best springtime anthems.
Over 2,000 species of plants call this place home, which means every turn offers a new burst of color and life. Springtime, though? That’s when Inniswood Metro Gardens goes full bloom mode. Flowers of every color, waterfalls flowing, bees and butterflies living their best lives — it’s a full sensory experience.
A Nature Reset for the Soul
If you’ve got a racing mind that never seems to slow down (same), this is the place to unplug. There’s something about the peacefulness of the trails, the soft rustling of the leaves, and the gentle trickle of water from the gardens’ streams and fountains that just puts everything into perspective.
One of my favorite things to do here is read the inscriptions on the memorial benches scattered throughout the park. It’s oddly comforting — people choosing to honor their loved ones in a place that’s so full of beauty and life. Every time I leave, I feel grateful for nature, for life, and for the people who make it special.
Accessibility & Hidden Gems
Not a big walker? No problem. Inniswood has boardwalk trails that make it super accessible for wheelchairs, strollers, or anyone who just prefers a smooth stroll. And if you’re up for a little exploring, there are plenty of hidden gems, like the Sisters’ Garden, the Woodland Rock Garden (my favorite), and the Fern Garden — each with its own unique vibe and aesthetic.
