I’ll be the first to admit: I am not an escape room guy.
My brain short-circuits the second a puzzle is involved. Riddles? Logic chains? I’m out. I’m more of a “wait for someone smarter to figure it out while I hold the flashlight and yell encouragement” kind of guy.
I just really stink at puzzles, man. And I can’t stand it.
But after my visit to Escape It Grandview, I don’t even recognize the person in the mirror anymore.
Why?
Because this Escape Room experience was genuinely so fun and surprisingly immersive that I’m already planning my next visit.
And that’s coming from someone who once demanded to be let out of an escape room during his friend Sam’s 16th birthday party because he was so frustrated.
More Than Just Locks and Timers
At Escape It Grandview, you can choose between three current escape room offerings, with a Pirate-themed room on the way that should be here in a few month’s time!
But us? We chose the “Escape the Speakeasy” room out of their three current offerings — “Christmas at Grandma’s,” “The Explorer’s Study,” and the speakeasy one we foolishly believed would be the easiest.
(I knew I was going to be of little to no help, so it didn’t matter how easy it was).
But right from the start, I knew this was going to be different. The storytelling was next level. It’s more than just “hey, you have 60 minutes to figure out this puzzle or else you lose.”
Owner Rob (more on him later) kicked things off by walking us through the premise: it’s the Prohibition era, the cops have caught wind of our underground drinking establishment, and we’ve got 60 minutes to piece together the clues and call off the raid before we all get hauled off to jail.
There was even a final phone call to our “inside man” at the police station, which was legitimately one of the most exhilarating moments I’ve experienced in a group activity setting.
These rooms are not just puzzles, either. There are sound effects, flashing lights, a suspiciously realistic rat (yes, really), it felt like we were trapped in a movie set that we had to outsmart.
I Can’t Tell You Everything… But I Want To
The worst part about this experience is that I really want to tell you all the cool stuff that happens inside the speakeasy… but I physically can’t. Not because I signed an NDA, but because spoiling it would be a crime against fun itself.
What I can say is that there are a lot of unexpected triggers hidden in the room. There were several jaw-dropping moments that really took me by surprise and kept me on my toes for the entire experience.
The Reviews Speak for Themselves
If you’re like me and tend to trust random internet people more than your own instincts, allow me to share a few highlights from Escape It Grandview’s rave reviews:
🧩 “We’ve done escape rooms all over the place… Speakeasy was slightly easier than the Explorer’s Study, but both were super fun and accessible for newbies.”
🏆 “These rooms are less about escaping and more about completing a mission — the attention to detail is on another level.”
🧐 “As someone who’s done 100+ escape rooms… these are among the best. Non-linear, immersive, and challenging in the best way.”
✨ “Owner Rob and game master Jahmez were incredibly nice and professional—this place is a hidden gem.”
The Genius Behind It All
The magic behind the Escape Room all lies with Rob, the owner, and his game masters, who painstakingly design every single puzzle and weave it into an interesting and fully immersive storyline that elevates his business above the rest.
Unless he finds a cool antique that fits the theme, everything is made in-house. And you can feel that when you walk through space. It’s cinematic, it’s immersive, and it’s absolutely worth your time, even if you, like me, have the puzzle-solving skills of a potato.
Ready to Escape?
Escape It Grandview is currently running special summer pricing, so now’s a great time to round up some friends and see if you’re smarter than a locked room with hidden compartments.
