If you thought the Wicked Witch was scary as a kid, just wait until you see what’s lurking in Oz now.

This Halloween season, the Columbus Children’s Theatre has taken over an office building and transformed it into something truly wild: In The Land of Oz, an 8,000-square-foot immersive experience that’s equal parts haunted house and interactive play. Forget sitting politely in a seat and clapping at the end… this one drags you straight into the story.

What Is “In The Land of Oz”?

Here’s the setup: the Wizard is gone, Emerald City has fallen, and all that’s left are witches, cult-like munchkins, and a whole lot of chaos. You’ll wander through crumbling palaces, cursed yellow brick roads, and shadowy forests while encountering all kinds of characters — some who want your help, others who definitely want to hurt you (figuratively, of course).

It’s spooky, theatrical, and completely original. Think Wizard of Oz meets haunted house… minus the gore and chainsaws.

Why It’s So Unique

8,000 square feet of story – Instead of one stage, there are over 15 rooms to explore, each with its own actors and atmosphere.

Local talent only – Every actor is from Columbus, and you can tell how much they love what they do.

Family-friendly (but not boring) – It’s recommended for kids ages 10 and up, but it’s just as fun for adults who want something different this Halloween.

One month only – This production ends November 2nd, so once November 3rd hits, Oz vanishes back into the shadows.

As someone who experienced it firsthand, I can honestly say this is the most unique “theatre” experience I’ve ever had. You don’t just watch the show — you’re in it. And for families with restless kids (or adults with short attention spans), this is the first production you won’t fall asleep in.

Why You Should Go

Columbus is full of haunted houses in October, but very few things hit that sweet spot of being spooky, family-friendly, and totally original. In The Land of Oz is one of those rare events that makes you forget you’re in a city office building and fully convinces you you’ve crossed over the rainbow into something way darker.

If you’re looking for a unique Halloween activity in Central Ohio, whether it’s date night, family night, or just a fun evening with friends, this is one you’ll be talking about long after you find your way out of Oz.
