Andy Warhol. Piet Mondrian. Edvard Munch. Louise Nevelson. These four masters are the jumping-off point for Studios on High Gallery’s May exhibition. Four member artists, each working in their own medium (wood, glass, mixed media and fiber), created a piece inspired by each master – illustrating the breadth and depth of artistic inspiration.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Mixed-media artist, Susan Rossiter draws inspiration from mid-century colors, shapes and patterns. Using handmade papers combined with acrylic pastes, gels and aggregates, she builds textured, dimensional surfaces that celebrate material and process.
Glass artist, Beth Himsworth’s fused works integrate movement, drama and rich color exploring an array of textures, translucence and color shine that draws the viewer into its shapes and rhythms.
Woodworker, Neil Donovan utilizes a host of sculptural techniques, often including wood turning and the application of color, to achieve an evolving range of fine art and sculpture. Works are marked by precise craft, driven into the realm of art with exuberant texture, playful color and a conceptual spirit.
Fiber artist, Deb Johnson’s works are randomly stitched from deconstructed fabric, raw fiber, yarn and other materials in what appears to be accidental collisions of color. The result is a unique textural collage that draws the viewer in.
