Kim Covell Maurer and Mack Mackin’s works explore the artists shared love for the writings of Mary Oliver. Together exhibiting for the first time, this joint show provided the artists space to reflect on and share their impact on one another.

A Relationship Evolved

The pair first connected as Covell Maurer was Macklin’s teacher and mentor. Covell Maurer teaches painting and drawing at the high school level and was inspirational for Mackin, rousing their curiosity and celebrating their unique voice.

Likewise, Covell Maurer was inspired by Mackin who continually pushed boundaries regarding process and experimentation. Over time, the relationship evolved from one of mentor/mentee to one of collaboration.

About Kim

Covell Maurer is a Columbus-based encaustic artist working primarily in the medium of encaustic — a wax-based process originating from ancient Greece. Her fascination with encaustics lies in its luminosity, translucence, unpredictability, and stubborn independence. It demands a high amount of physical labor and work that she deeply embraces. The artist has shown locally and in Athens, Cincinnati, and Chicago.

About Mack

Mackin is a professional artist based in Columbus, Ohio with a passion for nature, self-reflection and celebrating the community. Much of Mackin’s work portrays colorful abstract figures remembering things they did not know they had forgotten.
