The Rotary Club of Westerville is planning Independence Day festivities for Thursday, July 4.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
  •  7:30 a.m. Independence Day Vets 5K Run/Walk

    • Westerville Sports Complex (325 N. Cleveland Ave.)
    • 7:30 a.m. Pre-race ceremony featuring the Westerville Honor Guard
    • 7:45 a.m. Kids Fun Run for ages 11 and under (50-yard and 100-yard dashes)
    • 8 a.m. 5K Run/Walk begins
    • Register here for the 5K run/walk
  • 10:30 a.m. Parade begins in Uptown Westerville. Route begins at St. Paul Catholic Church, heading south on State Street to Electric Avenue. 

  • 5 p.m. Programming begins at the Westerville Sports Complex (325 N. Cleveland Ave.).

    •  Beginning at 5 p.m. at the Westerville Sports Complex (325 N. Cleveland Ave.), the City will present the free “Fun Zone.” Enjoy performers in patriotic attire and try your hand at exciting activities like the bungee run, Hungry Hippos game and baseball pitch game! Did we mention the giant inflatable slide? 
    • Festivities also include the Concert Series and Food Truck Festival.
    • The City will also host food trucks and lawn games at the South end of the Community Center all evening.
    • The parking lot will open at 4 p.m.
  • 10 p.m. Professional fireworks show begins

GETTING TO THE FESTIVITIES: Road Closures, Parking

Parade Road Closures, Parking

State Street closes, between County Line Road and Electric Avenue, beginning at 9 a.m. The Westerville Division of Police will reopen the road when the parade concludes. Parking in Uptown is free.

Evening Festivities Road Closures, Parking

  • Beginning at around 3 p.m. County Line Road closed:
    • Between Alkyre Run Drive and Cleveland Avenue
    • Between Executive Campus Drive and Cleveland Avenue.

Parking is available at the Westerville Community Center (350 N. Cleveland Ave.) after 4 p.m. Additional parking may be available at nearby businesses unless otherwise marked (look for signage). Reference the event map for parking options in the area.

Heritage Park will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking for the event.

NEW THIS YEAR: Community Center Closed

The Westerville Community Center will be closed on 4th of July to accommodate event set up, traffic and parking.

Where is the best place to watch the fireworks?

The recommended viewing area is the Westerville Sports Complex (325 N. Cleveland Ave.).

Where are the fireworks set?

 Heritage Park, which will close at 7 a.m. on July 4 in preparation.

Why did you move the fireworks display from the Public Service Department?

 Established in 2021, the new location provides a safe vantage point for more people to view the show.

Can I have consumer-grade fireworks at home?

No. The state’s new fireworks law took affect July 3, 2022. The City has exercised its right to opt-out of this law meaning the rules remain the same as prior years. Read more from the Westerville Division of Fire.
