The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that fall is the best season of the year.
On what basis, you ask?
Ohio State Football, incredible weather, and the best flavors of the year, for starters! We’re talkin’ pumpkin pie, apple pie, s’mores, and s’more (as in so much more)!
And that’s not even counting all the magical flavors that Thanksgiving brings!
So, in the spirit of the season, we found the best fall ice cream flavors in Columbus and Central Ohio that you need to try before they melt away for good.
Caramel Apple Crumble, Miso Butterscotch Brownie | Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
Find a Jeni’s Near You Here!
Jeni’s is serving up Caramel Apple Crumble and the returning favorite, Miso Butterscotch Brownie. The Caramel Apple Crumble takes the magic of a nice slice of Apple Pie with a scoop of ice cream and blends it all into one, unbelievable scoop, while the Miso Butterscotch Brownie is a unique blend of salty and sweet that makes you want to turn off the furnace and cozy up next to a fireplace instead.

Trick or Treat, Apple Strudel, Chocolate Almond | Johnson’s Real Ice Cream
Find a Johnson’s Near You Here!
Whether you want to dive into the flavors of Halloween night early with the Trick or Treat Ice Cream (vanilla with crushed M&Ms, Kit Kats, and candy corn) or go for fall’s favorite fruit mixed into some cinnamon ice cream, Johnson’s isn’t messing around this season. They’ve not only expanded physically, operating exponentially more locations than they did just a few short years ago… they also have broadened their flavor profiles, and we are here for it. My favorite of the three is the Chocolate Almond, mainly because I feel like Johnson’s does nutty ice cream better than anyone, and the Chocolate Almond flavor continues that trend with a great blend of sweet and slightly savory goodness.

Pumpkin, Cinnamon | Graeter’s Ice Cream
Find a Graeter’s Near You Here!
If there’s one thing Graeter’s does better than anyone, it’s being unbelievably consistent with completely nailing every single flavor they create. This is thanks to their commitment to making small-batch French Pot ice cream. Every batch is just 2.5 gallons, allowing them to ensure the creaminess and flavor profile are exactly right each time. Their fall flavors are no exception, and no matter how you mix & match them with the dozens of other flavors, you’re going to finish your scoops craving more.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Sundae | Toft’s Grand Scoop
1288 W. 5th Ave, Columbus, OH 43212
Toft’s Dairy Farm has been around since the early 1920s, making it Ohio’s oldest dairy, which can only mean one thing: They know how to make some darn good ice cream. And no flavor embodies that better than their Pumpkin Cheesecake Sundae. This is a creamy pumpkin cheesecake ice cream that is then covered in a pumpkin spice sauce and shaved graham crackers… Oh me, oh my — it’s so freakin’ fall and so freakin’ good!
Pan de Muerto | Dulce Vida Ice Cream
Find a Dulce Vida Near You Here!
Founded with the intent to bring authentic Mexican dessert to Central Ohio, Dulce Vida Ice Cream has quickly become a local favorite thanks to their legendary Mangonadas, fruity ice cream, and homemade popsicles. This fall, they’re picking up right where they left off with their limited-time Bread of Death flavor. Pan de Muerto is a common sweet bread that’s eaten around Día de los Muertos. Dulce Vida’s version takes those sweet, buttery, and fruity flavors and somehow fits them all into this delicious ice cream flavor. Don’t miss this!

Honey Ginger Cookie, Strawberry Spark, and Pumpkin Pie | Mardi Gras Homemade Ice Cream
1947 Hard Rd, Columbus, OH 43235
Mardi Gras is never afraid to experiment with new flavors, which is why we were so excited to see what they’d come up with for the fall. Well, we’re happy to report that they’ve done it again, folks. You can have a classic fall flavor in the creamy Pumpkin Pie ice cream, but if you’re looking for something off the beaten path, you cannot go wrong with the Honey Ginger Cookie. It’s like a gingerbread house that has a little fall spice in it. The Strawberry Spark, on the other hand, is perfect for those true sweet tooths who love classic berries with some lime and a touch of ginger. So yummy.
