This long-awaited addition to the Columbus Metro Parks is finally open!
The Canopy Walk at Blacklick Woods Metro Park has become quite the talking point in recent months here in Central Ohio. Delays in the construction of the boardwalk and controversy surrounding the cost of the project led to some, well, interesting conversations in our Facebook comments when we initially posted about this.
But now, all that is in the rearview mirror. It’s finally here, and it… is… AWESOME!!
The main boardwalk area is 40 feet above the ground, giving observers the ultimate view of the treetops and the wildlife that inhabits it. There is also an elevator tower that leads up to an observation deck that is 55 feet above the ground (so if you’re afraid of heights, you might want to check out a different Metro Park).
Bird feeders on pulley systems will help keep birds interested in the canopy and prevent them from being scared away from humans being unusually close to them, giving bird watching enthusiasts an unparalleled view of the bird species that call Central Ohio home.
There are also floorless cargo nets for those seeking a thrill or just a place to lounge 4 stories in the air, as well as rope bridges, a fireman’s pole, and a treehouse. The real question here is, what doesn’t this Canopy Walk have?
