Alright dessert lovers, this one’s big. If you haven’t jumped on the Baklava train already, this is your time to do it before the train leaves the station. pureBaklava, the boutique e-commerce bakery behind some of the best baklava in the United States, is setting up its very first brick-and-mortar right here in Central Ohio very soon.

And yes, the “p” is lowercase. We checked.

While there is no definitive opening date, things are in the works behind the scenes that will hopefully bring it to us sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, you can grab some incredible baklava at their website here, but if you don’t want to wait for it to ship, we have a secret…

You can get your hands on their incredible baklava anytime you want if you live in Central Ohio!

Here’s their story, and how you can get your hands on it ASAP!

A Family Recipe a Century in the Making

pureBAKLAVA officially started in 2021, but this story goes way back.

Like, Ellis Island back.

If you’ve never had (or heard of Baklava) before, let us introduce you to its magic. It’s a filo-based pastry that began in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions. It’s filled with nuts like walnuts or pistachios, and usually honey or a sugar syrup that is to die for.

The recipe pureBaklava uses was passed down from the family’s Yiayia (that’s Greek for grandmother), who brought it with her when she immigrated to the U.S. in the 1920s. She didn’t write any recipes down (grandmothers never do, I guess) but her daughter Nikki eventually captured every pinch and pour, turning Yiayia’s oral tradition into an exact recipe.

Now that recipe lives on through pureBAKLAVA, which has filled over 2,100 online orders since launching just a few years ago. That’s a lot of sweet, syrupy layers shipped out from one small Dublin-based bakery.

Why pureBAKLAVA is Different (And Better)

If you’ve ever tried baking baklava at home, you know it’s a labor of love… heavy on the labor. Just one wrong move can turn “scrumptious pastry” into “dry disappointment.”

That’s where pureBAKLAVA comes in. Their baklava isn’t too dry or overly sweet, and it actually has that perfect syrupy texture people crave. Each batch is baked slowly, by hand, using fresh ingredients shipped straight to their kitchen. They even package every order with love and patience — because apparently, even desserts deserve to feel cared for.

This family has been giving baklava as gifts for years, and word spread fast. It even caught the attention of Cheryl’s Cookies, who featured their baklava in a national holiday catalog back when the business was still called The Greek Lady’s Kitchen. That collaboration helped prove what their friends and family already knew: their baklava was something special.

Soon: A Brick-and-Mortar in Dublin

Until now, pureBAKLAVA has been an online-only operation, with a few retail partners around town like Vincenzo’s Convenient Elegance, Weiland’s Market, Littleton’s Market, and Lucky’s Market. See below for the addresses for each business. But soon, they’ll open their first physical bakery right here in Dublin.

This is huge news for local dessert fans (and for me, personally). Because while mail-order baklava is great, there’s something magical about walking into a bakery and smelling those layers of butter and honey in person.

They even have seasonal flavors like Pecan Pumpkin Spice (for Thanksgiving), a Peanut Butter Cup Baklava for Halloween (that is already sold out), and even a White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Baklava that is TO DIE FOR.

Why You Gotta Care

This isn’t just another “new bakery opening soon” kind of thing. This is a small family business built on heritage, hard work, and a whole lot of love. It’s proof that when something is made with care, and just the right amount of filo dough, it can grow from a family kitchen to a nationwide favorite.

And soon, it’s coming home to Dublin.

So yeah, I’ll be the one waiting outside on opening day… fork in hand.

Place an order to try the magic for yourself here.
