That’s exactly what’s happening with [’plas] Food & Drink, an Italian-inspired restaurant tucked just off High Street on 5th Avenue, quietly minding its business inside a stunning brick building that somehow keeps it from getting the foot traffic it deserves.
Which is wild… because this place is destined for greatness.
High-End Food Without the High-End Attitude
[’plas] absolutely nails that rare sweet spot. The food feels elevated and thoughtful, but the atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and genuinely inviting. No white tablecloth stiffness. No weird pressure to whisper. Just great design, great art, and a dining room that immediately makes you want to settle in and stay awhile.
It’s the kind of place where you feel taken care of without being hovered over. And the service deserves its own standing ovation.
Our waitress was attentive, kind, and wildly intuitive. At one point there was a server in training shadowing her, and I genuinely would’ve never known if they hadn’t mentioned it. He was thoughtful, warm, and completely locked in. The whole team somehow manages to anticipate things you didn’t even realize you needed yet, which feels increasingly rare these days.
The Menu Will Test Your Self Control
This is one of those menus where you want to order everything. Not because it’s flashy or gimmicky, but because every single dish sounds carefully considered and incredibly executed.
The only thing stopping you is basic human anatomy (your stomach) and basic financial responsibility (ordering 12 plates is not exactly cheap).

Put Your Trust in the Chef (Seriously)
The Chef’s Whim might be one of the best values for a high-end dining experience in Columbus.
Five courses for $95 per person, with optional wine, cocktail, or spirit-free pairings that are just as thoughtful as the food. Many dietary needs can be accommodated, and it’s designed to let the kitchen show off a little. Which they absolutely can and should.
It’s indulgent without being absurd, and it turns the night into an experience rather than just a meal.
Standout Dishes You’ll Think About Later
If you’re ordering a la carte, the chef’s charcuterie and formaggio board is the perfect way to start. It sets the tone immediately and makes it very clear you’re in good hands.
From there, it’s almost unfair how many hits there are.
The Miso Tamari King Oyster is deeply savory and beautifully balanced. The Moroccan Braised Lamb Shank is rich, tender, and comforting without feeling heavy. And the Sausage Skillet Gnocchi is the kind of dish that makes you stop talking mid-sentence because you’re too busy processing how good it is.
Honestly, if you come here and can’t find something you love, something is off and you might want to get your tastebuds checked.

[’plas] doesn’t scream for attention. It doesn’t sit directly on High Street. It doesn’t rely on hype. It just quietly delivers one of the most complete dining experiences in the Short North and lets the food, service, and atmosphere do the talking.
I’m genuinely grateful my partner brought me here for our anniversary, because if he hadn’t, I might still be walking past it without ever knowing what I was missing.
And that would’ve been a tragedy.
