When you think of taco restaurants in Columbus, chances are that Local Cantina is one of the first spots that come to mind.

Known for unique taco offerings like the delicious Nashville Hot Chicken taco and the Hong Kong Phooey, Local Cantina is a staple for Columbus food fiends.

Prior to last weekend, they had been operating 13 stores in the Columbus area.

But as of Sunday, June 9, that number dipped down to 12 as they decided to board up their Short North location, which was located inside the distinctly beautiful brown-orange building that sits above I-670, bridging the Short North with Downtown Columbus.

While there has been no official word on the motivations behind the move, patrons have speculated that low foot traffic combined with its prime real estate hurt the location’s profits.

But do not despair, taco aficionados! Local Cantina is still alive and well all throughout the Columbus area. Chances are, you’re still no more than a 10 minute drive from a Local Cantina location, so go ahead and mourn the closing of the Short North location with a few Weezy Style tacos. I’m sure they’d love to have ya.
