Blacklick Woods Metro Park & Canopy Walk

At first glance, the idea of a canopy walk might seem daunting for those with mobility challenges. However, Blacklick Woods Metro Park has thoughtfully designed its Canopy Walk to be fully accessible. This elevated boardwalk rises approximately 40 feet above the forest floor, offering unparalleled views of the treetops and exceptional birdwatching opportunities. An elevator seamlessly integrated into the structure provides easy access, ensuring everyone can enjoy this unique experience. The park also features a variety of ADA-certified trails, ranging from the short 0.1-mile Walter A. Tucker Trail to the more ambitious 16-mile Blacklick Creek Greenway, catering to all levels of activity.

The Whetstone Park of Roses

3901 N High St, Columbus, OH 43214

Nestled just off High Street in Clintonville, the Whetstone Park of Roses is a fragrant oasis boasting over 12,000 rose bushes that bloom vibrantly in late spring and summer. The park’s flat, paved pathways make it highly walkable and wheelchair-friendly. Numerous benches are strategically placed throughout, offering restful spots to sit and soak in the colorful surroundings. ADA parking with step-free access is available at the east end of the garden off Roselea Place, ensuring a hassle-free visit for all.

Inniswood Metro Gardens

940 S Hempstead Rd, Westerville, OH 43081

Often hailed as one of the most beautiful metro parks in Ohio, Inniswood Metro Gardens spans 123 acres of meticulously curated gardens interwoven with natural landscapes. Every trail within the gardens is designed to be wheelchair accessible and easy to traverse. The Chipmunk Chatter Trail, a 0.6-mile paved multi-use path, is perfect for a leisurely stroll or roll. While most paths are flat and accommodating, some may be a bit steeper. If you have a motorized scooter or wheelchair, however, you should be fine! The park also offers accessible parking and restrooms, enhancing the visitor experience.

Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park

1775 Darby Creek Drive, Galloway, OH 43119

Starting at the Cedar Ridge Picnic Area, visitors can access the 5-mile Darby Creek Greenway Trail. This ADA-accessible gravel path meanders through bison pastures, open prairies, and serene woodlands, offering a unique glimpse into diverse habitats. The trail is well-maintained and suitable for wheelchair users seeking an immersive nature experience. Additionally, the park provides ADA-accessible vault restrooms and designated handicap parking spots, ensuring comfort and convenience for all guests.

Sharon Woods Metro Park

6911 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, OH

Sharon Woods Metro Park features several ADA-accessible trails that cater to varying preferences. The 1.1-mile Edward S. Thomas Trail is a wide gravel path winding through a state nature preserve, passing majestic burr oaks and an observation deck. For those seeking a longer route, the 3.8-mile Multipurpose Trail offers a moderate-intensity, fully paved loop around the park, providing picturesque views of prairies and woodlands. Both trails are designed to accommodate wheelchair users comfortably.

Topiary Park

480 E Town St, Columbus, OH 43215

For a more urban and whimsical outing, Topiary Park in downtown Columbus is a must-visit. This wheelchair-accessible park features a living recreation of Georges Seurat’s painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, brought to life through meticulously sculpted topiary bushes.
