I remember it like it was yesterday, pulling up to the drive-in theaters near my house to watch Shrek 2.

That movie was already an out-of-body experience, but getting to watch it in my mom’s 2003 Toyota Sequoia with my brothers while snacking on popcorn and root beer? Talk about being transported to a whole new dimension.

Drive-ins have been around for decades upon decades and for good reason… it’s a super easy and unique way to catch some of the best new movies. Plus, you don’t have to sit in a cramped movie theater with a hundred strangers. It even makes a great date night (just keep things PG-13 at least until you get home, please).

So, without any further ado, here are the best drive-ins in and around Columbus!

South Drive-In Theatre

3050 S High St, Columbus, OH 43207 | more info

Open 7 nights a week, the South Drive-In Theatre is the closest drive-in theater to most Columbus residents. They even allow you to bring your furry best friends and a grill if you want to make a whole evening out of it! We just encourage that you also purchase concessions from their concession stand, as that’s how they make money 🙂

Skyview Drive-In Theatre

2420 E. Main St, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 | more info

Built in 1948, this drive-in has been serving the Central Ohio community for 76 years! Similar to the South Drive-In Theatre, you can bring your own food, grill out, bring a pet, etc. Just be sure to get some of their delicious buttery popcorn and a drink to wash it all down.

Dixie Twin Drive-In

6201 N Dixie Dr, Dayton, OH 45414 | more info

As you can probably infer from the name, this is a dual-screened drive-in that shows two movies per screen per night! Be sure to get cozy, bring some bug spray, and if you prefer, feel free to sit outside of your vehicle during the movie (as long as you aren’t taking up any parking spaces). If you forgot a lawn chair, you can buy one at the concessions along with some popcorn and drinks.

Hi-Road Drive-In

8059 US-68, Kenton, OH 43326 | more info

This Drive-In is just classic Americana. Located in a small town far away from any sense of city living, its two screens and concession stand serve as a quaint, yet fun night on the town. They carry all the blockbusters you’re looking for, so be sure to get your tickets sooner rather than later!

Sidney Auto-Vue Drive-In Theatre

1409 4th Ave, Sidney, OH 45365 | more info

Another small town drive-in, the Sidney Auto-Vue is not only known for showing all the hit movies on both of their large silver screens, but also for their extensive and delicious concession menu. You can find just about anything you could ever want at this concession stand, including cream cheese stuffed pretzels, funnel cakes, hot dogs, Cheddar and Jalepeño sausage, and so much more.

Springmill Drive-In Theater

1040 OH-39, Mansfield, OH 44906 | more info

Offering 2 screens, tons of double features, and even some triple features at no extra cost, the Springmill Drive-In Theater has been a staple in Mansfield since 1950! Guests are encouraged to come early and eat dinner at the theater, either by bringing their own food or by purchasing from their renowned concession stand.
