Central Ohio may not be known for its rolling landscapes and mountainous geography, but that doesn’t mean it lacks beautiful places to hike. We do have quite the cream of the crop when it comes to our wooded landscapes and forestry, so we’ve got that goin’ for us. Fall is one of the best times (if not THE best time) out of the year to get outside and hike. With the weather cooling down and the leaves shifting from green to orange, it’s tough to resist getting out into the great outdoors for some fresh, Fall air.

Layer up, pack a water and a hot drink, bring a few snacks, and get hikin’!

Ash Cave

26400 OH-56, South Bloomingville, OH 43152

Hocking Hills is probably the most favored and well-known places to hike in Ohio with its jaw-dropping sights and varying trails. Ash Trail is a favorite out of the 7 main hiking trails in Hocking Hills for its towering cliff walls, gorge, and breathtaking waterfall. To finish the hike in its entirety, you’ll need to set aside around 45 minutes to complete it (plus some extra time to take in all the scenery). This is a oneway trail! Additionally, it is also wheelchair accessible!

Cantwell Cliffs

13540 OH-374, Rockbridge, OH 43149

Much like Ash Cave, Cantwell Cliffs is another favorite amongst the 7 main hikes in Hocking Hills for its various loops, rugged terrain, and scenic wonders. With a little over 2 miles worth of trail to trek and sights to see, it makes for a longer hike. This is the type of hike you may enjoy taking at a slower pace to ensure you witness the beautiful orangey-red forestry and cliffs. Choose your steps carefully as it is not a straight path!

Blendon Woods Metro Park : Sugarbush Trail

4265 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43230

This hike is not as far out as the latter, making it easily accessible and enjoyable for a nearby Fall hike! While Blendon Woods Metro Park has quite a few trails to blaze, Sugarbush Trail is the most gratifying hike! It’s not too easy and not too hard; the perfect blend. Hike through stunning wooded trails to an open meadow and take a minute to appreciate your surroundings – because wow. Birdwatchers, keep your eyes open for multiple species of birds!
