Who doesn’t love Cinco de Mayo? An excuse to drink Corona, eat some delicious Mexican cuisine, and celebrate Mexican culture? Sign us up!
That said, Columbus has the most Mexican restaurants per capita in the entire state of Ohio, so it can be a little bit confusing trying to figure out which spots are worth eating at.
While we love all Mexican cuisine, these are the spots with real, homemade, authentic Mexican fare that truly blew us away. Bon appétit (or should we say ¡buen provecho!)
1. La Super Torta
721 Georgesville Rd, Columbus, OH 43228
Famous for their tortas (which are Mexico’s brilliant take on sandwiches), La Super Torta is really your one-stop-shop for the most delicious Mexican food in central Ohio. Plus, the vibes inside are so cool. It feels like a true hole in the wall, which can only mean that they pump out absolutely incredible food (which they absolutely do)
2. Los Guachos Taqueria

Los Guachos has been one of my most frequented restaurants in Columbus for the past 4 years or so, and with good reason. Their incredibly fresh and authentic food and weekly specials are nearly unbeatable. My favorite time to go is on Mondays, where they offer BOGO tacos al pastor (which, by the way, are the best freakin’ tacos ever). And because they have four locations across Central Ohio, it’s always easy to find amazing Mexican fare no matter where you live.
3. Masa Mexican Grill
212 Kelton Ave, Columbus, OH 43205
Tucked away in the Trolley East Market in, you guessed it, East Columbus, Masa Mexican Grill is home to yet another authentic Mexican eatery. The consommé is loaded with flavor, and if you’re as much of a cilantro lover as I am, it’s going to quickly be your favorite thing on the menu. Dip your tacos in there and allow the deliciousness to transport your mouth to heaven.
4. AJ’s Tacos
3059 W Broad St, Columbus, OH 43204
Located in what I originally described to my friends as “a random parking lot,” this food truck is what made me fall in love with quesabirria tacos. The perfect blend of crispy, juicy, and cheesy, these tacos will make you question your entire existence. How is this food truck whipping out such incredible food? Why don’t more people know about this place? These are questions we may never know the answers to, but we’re ok with that. As long as they’re slinging out quesabirria tacos, you will never hear us complaining.
