Just under an hour east of Columbus along I-70, a small-town donut shop just took home a massive national title.
I guess it’s the year of the national title for us here in Ohio!
The Buckeye State continues it’s quest for world domination as Donald’s Donuts in Zanesville, Ohio was just named the #1 Donut Shop in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best Awards.
After one bite, you’ll understand why. Plus, the shop is just so friggin’ cute!

About Donald’s Donuts
This family-owned spot has been around for 65 years, and it’s still completely family-run. That kind of longevity doesn’t happen by accident, especially in the donut world.
They’ve got a wide selection of options, but if you really want to understand why they’re the best in the country, you have to get:
- An apple fritter
- A regular old glazed
- A chocolate ring
Trust me on this.
I’m absolutely a yeast donut guy, and Donald’s does it better than just about anybody (hence the whole “best in America” thing). The yeast donuts are light and fluffy with a little bit of crisp on the outside… just pure perfection.
But if you’re more of a cake donut fan, they’ve got you covered too. The cake donuts are actually moist (rare!), with that same slightly crisp exterior that makes every bite worth it. They even did a powdered red velvet cake donut that was just un. freakin’. real.
Donald’s Donuts is a reminder that you don’t need gimmicks or TikTok trends to make something special. I would even argue that gimmicky donuts tend to stink! (Please don’t hate me.)
You just need a little sugar, a little flour, and 65 years of love. Congrats to the Warne family and all of Donald’s employees!
