When Punch Drink, a nationally acclaimed media brand dedicated to all things drinks and drinking culture, had named Cobra in Columbus one of the top 5 best new bars in the U.S., I had two immediate thoughts:
1. “Whoa, that’s impressive.”
2. “No way it’s actually that good.”
So we checked it out, and came to the conclusion that Punch Drink got it wrong.
It’s even better than they made it out to be.
The Perfect Late Night Date Vibe
Cobra is tucked away in the Brewery District, and right away, you can tell this place is different. It oozes cool, but not in that pretentious “everyone here is wearing designer sunglasses at night” kind of way. It’s smooth, stylish, and somehow still laid-back, like if James Bond and your chillest friend decided to open a bar together.
This is what makes it the perfect late-night date spot.
It’s got that rare balance between energy and ease. You can actually have a conversation without yelling over the music, but it never feels dead or dull. The lighting is soft, the playlist is spot-on, and the crowd gives off major “we’re all just vibing” energy.
It’s upscale, but not the kind of upscale that makes you check the price tag before ordering a drink. It’s suave without being stuffy. Nice without being tacky. And as cliché as that might sound… it’s absolutely true.
You can show up in jeans or dress it up a little. Either way, you’ll fit right in.
The Menu: Classy, Creative, and Completely Delicious
The real stars of the show are the food and drinks. Each menu combines authentic Asian flavors with innovative American stylings, giving you the feeling that you’re discovering new dishes in real time.
The Cobra Old Fashioned is an instant classic. It starts with Wild Turkey 101, but that’s about as “classic Old Fashioned” as it gets. They then add in Rye, Toki Japanese Whisky, Barley, and Cocoa that gives it that sweet vibe without having to worry about waking up with a headache.

And the food? Unreal.
We started with seasoned fries and a lemon shiso aioli that could probably fix all your life problems. Perfectly crispy, fluffy, and just salty enough to keep you reaching for more. Then came the Banh Mi Sando, a Vietnamese sandwich with Vietnamese Ham, pickled daikon and carrot, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, Kewpie Mayo, all on a hoagie. It’s the perfect blend of savory with a bright acidity that won’t weight you down.
Every item on the menu feels intentional, like it was created to complement the vibe of the space.

What Punch Drink Got Wrong
Punch Drink was absolutely right to put Cobra on the map — but they undersold it.
Cobra isn’t just a great bar. It’s a full-on romantic experience
It’s a place where strangers become friends, where every cocktail feels like it was made specifically for you, and where time somehow flies without you noticing. You can sit close, share a plate of fries, and sip something strong while the whole night feels like it’s unfolding in slow motion.
It’s romantic without trying to be. It’s hip without being fake. That’s the magic of Cobra.

Don’t Take My Word for It…
If you’re in Columbus and looking for the ultimate late-night date spot, Cobra is it.
It’s chill without being boring. Nice without being snooty. And fun without ever feeling forced. Whether it’s your first date or your hundredth, it’s the kind of place that just gets it right.
So go. Order the Old Fashioned. Split some fries. Get lost in conversation. And if you leave feeling like you’ve just found your new favorite bar? Same.
