Join us at the Octagon Earthworks Visitor Center as we welcome experts from multiple fields speaking on topics connected to how we understand and learn about the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks; from archaeological and indigenous perspectives to stories about how Earthworks have been preserved and protected.

This program is geared toward adults (ages 18+) although we encourage high schoolers to attend as well. The program will consist of a 45-minute talk given by an expert and a 15-minute question-and-answer session. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, the lecture will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Tickets are purchased on site for $10/person, $5/Student and free for OHC members.

Thursday, April 16:
Join us at the Octagon Earthworks Visitor Center to hear a special talk with Jake Boswell and Justin Parcher of The Ohio State University’s Knowlton School of Architecture, the creators of the exhibit Monuments of the Ohio Valley. Joining us virtually, they will discuss the research and technology behind the project, including how LiDAR data, aerial imagery, and archival materials were used to map and visualize ancient earthworks across the Ohio Valley. Learn more about the process of translating complex landscape data into interactive models and what these findings reveal about the past, present, and future of these remarkable sites.

If you plan to attend this month’s speaker series, consider joining the Monuments of the Ohio Valley exhibit reception at 6 p.m. on the same day. There’s no additional cost to attend the reception.
