Look… if you just got a nice little tax refund, first of all, congratulations. The IRS finally gave something back instead of just taking your lunch money.
And if you didn’t? I see you. I am you (at least last year). I got absolutely WORKED on my taxes, and let me tell you… my budgeting excel worksheet was doing some serious heavy lifting until I financially recovered (which is exactly why I put these cheap guides together)
But if you did get a refund? Oh boy… we’re NOT being responsible today. We’re celebrating. We’re making reservations. We’re ordering appetizers AND dessert like the financially reckless kings and queens we are.
Here’s where to splurge on a meal that’s actually worth it in Columbus and Central Ohio.
Best Fine Dining Restaurants in Columbus and Central Ohio
Agni
📍 716 S High St, Columbus, OH 43206
Here’s the thing about Agni… it somehow gets a ton of hype and is STILL underrated. That’s just wrong.
This is coming from the mind of Avishar Barua, so expectations are high. Yet they still get blown out of the water.
Every dish feels intentional, creative, and just straight up ridiculous in the best way. It’s one of those meals where you sit there halfway through and can’t believe what you just ate.
If you want the full breakdown, we already went deep on it here.

The Refectory
📍 1092 Bethel Rd, Columbus, OH 43220
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… this place feels like slipping into a different country for a few hours.
Executive Chef Richard Blondin is a Lyon native, and that French influence shows up in everything. The food, the pacing, the entire vibe.
It’s elegant without being intimidating and refined without ever feeling stiff. Add in one of the best wine cellars in Ohio (700+ bottles), thoughtful service, and a dining room that basically encourages you to sit there and forget what time it is, there’s a reason this is one of the most classic high-end dinners in Central Ohio.
Pelino’s Pasta
📍 245 King Ave, Columbus, OH 43201
Pelino’s is one of those places that flies under the radar for reasons I will never understand.
Every ingredient is sourced directly from Italy. Not like “inspired by Italy”… I mean actually from Italy. And the Pelino family has real relationships with the farmers, winemakers, and producers behind it all.
The menu changes monthly, and the whole experience feels more like you’ve been invited into a very stylish Italian family dinner than going out to eat.
And then there’s the Cacio e Pepe… finished tableside inside a wheel of melting Pecorino Romano. It’s everything you’d hope it’d be and more.

Mitchell’s Ocean Club
📍 4002 Easton Station, Columbus, OH 43219
Yes. You CAN have incredible seafood in Columbus. Mitchell’s Ocean Club proves that loudly.
We’re talking smoking seafood towers, lobster tails, king crab legs, Chilean sea bass, and one of the best bone-in ribeyes you’ll ever have (which, by the way, is the best cut of steak).
Even people who claim they “don’t like seafood” suddenly change their tune here.
Veritas
📍 11 W Gay St, Columbus, OH 43215
Veritas might be the most slept-on fine dining spot in Central Ohio.
They’ve been quietly innovating since 2012, and somehow still feel like a hidden gem… which is wild considering how good it is.
This is not just dinner. This is a full-on experience. The kind where you lose track of how many plates you’ve already eaten and just trust the process.
So if the IRS took (or stole, depending how you look at it) your money and then gave some of it back, there’s no better way to emotionally process that than going deep at Veritas.

HARU Omakase
📍 2027 Polaris Pkwy, Columbus, OH 43240
One of the newest heavy hitters on the scene, HARU has quickly made a name for itself as one of the best sushi experiences in town.
The whole concept is built around five “tours” through Japanese cuisine, which is already cool… but if you really want to do this right, you go for the Omakase Counter Dining Experience.
Chef Yudi Makassau literally guides you through the entire thing himself.
It’s like getting a tour of Big Ben from the guy who built it… except instead of historical facts, you’re getting some of the best bites of sushi you’ll ever have in your life.
If you’ve got refund money burning a hole in your pocket, this is where it goes.
Isla
📍 116 E Moler St, Columbus, OH 43207
A great meal isn’t just about flavor. It’s about the experience… the atmosphere… the way it sticks in your brain for years. Isla gets that.
This is a highly personal dining experience where groups of strangers are guided through a tasting menu that’s just as beautiful as it is delicious. It’s unlike anything else on this list (which, ironically, you could say about every place here… but still).
And the craziest part? It’s still pretty new and already turning heads down in Merion Village.

Spend It While You Got It
Look, I’m not a financial advisor. I’m just a guy who really enjoys a good meal and has made questionable decisions with money before. But if you’ve got a tax refund sitting in your account, this is your sign to turn it into a memory.
At the end of the day, you’re not going to remember the number in your bank account. But you will remember that one meal where everything just hit.
And if your taxes didn’t go your way this year, hang tight. Hit the cheap eats guides, recover like I did, and we’ll circle back to this list next year.
